Towards more accessible cancer diagnostics and treatment

The EUROPA project is pioneering compact, laser-driven particle accelerators to transform how medical radioisotopes are produced – bringing advanced cancer care closer to patients.

About EUROPA

lasEr-driven Universal Radio-isOtope Production Accelerator

Each year, approximately 4 million people in Europe are diagnosed with cancer. Medical radioisotopes are crucial in precisely identifying and destroying cancer cells, yet their production remains costly and limited, relying on large, centralized facilities.

EUROPA is changing this. By using high-power laser technology to drive nuclear reactions, we are developing compact particle accelerators capable of producing radioisotopes locally. This approach reduces costs, simplifies logistics, and minimizes infrastructure requirements.

Our vision is to pave the way for laser-driven radioisotope production facilities – making advanced cancer diagnostics and therapies more accessible to patients everywhere.
